Noah’s Story

Noah is a four year old boy with Type 1 diabetes and due to the intermittent functioning of his pancreas, it is very difficult to keep his blood levels stable. Despite having his blood tested every forty minutes, Noah suffers hypoglycaemic episodes regularly and as a result has already experienced two brain seizures.
Currently Cancer Bio-detection Dogs are training a dog to alert one of Noah’s parents should his blood sugar level become dangerously low or high. Training a dog for a child as young as Noah will be much more challenging, but if it can be done Noah will have the chance of leading a much more normal life with increased independence and confidence.
Bianca a Black Labrador has been trained to alert Noah’s parents when his blood sugar level drops, recently she persistently pestered Noah’s mum when she was busy and when asked if she wanted to go out went straight to Noah who’s blood sugar had dropped to about 2, saving Noah from going into a coma.
